Are Fire Marshal’s Domestic Terrorists
This is a special post courtesy of Dave Statter from Statter911.com.
My local fire department has been taking a beating over the last month all across the country. Its crazed fire marshals are accused of tyranny, power-tripping, and being domestic terrorists. And those are some of the nice comments.
So what awful thing did the FMs from the Fairfax County (VA) Fire & Rescue Department do?
They did their jobs.
If you are not aware, on July 24th the fire marshals arrested two bartenders they caught in the act of lighting a bottle containing a flammable liquid and a wick. The bartenders are accused of then using what some might call a Molotov cocktail as a source of ignition for their fire breathing demonstration. It’s a trick they’ve apparently done for years at Jimmy’s in Herndon.
I say good job by the fire marshals.

Do the Smoke Alarm Dance on Social Media
Many of us are on twitter and would like to put it too good use. Inspector911.com is trying to see if we can ever make something we need a trending topic. For those of you who are not on twitter, a trending topic shows up on the right hand side of the screen when there a lot of tweet (posts) which indicate the same key words.
Inspector911.com is trying to help remind the great people on twitter and beyond to check their smoke alarms. Join us on twitter starting now, Friday and all day Saturday (you can post multiple tweets with the #smokealarm in the post). Feel free to [click to continue…]

Get Information out Quick with Twitter
Building and Safety, fire prevention and emergency management departments have looked for creative ways to provide quick tips to our communities. This may be the news, when to shelter in place, tid-bits on big events, or when the next open house is. Web 2.0 is moving quickly and traditional static web-pages are becoming a thing of the past. The social media of Twitter, Facebook, or Linked in can help you get your message out.

Welcome to 2008 the start of the first dynamic, interactive, and informative community for inspectors. This is not intended for one type of inspectors. It’s truly inspectors helping inspectors. We have final updated the site. It’s not quite done yet but the format is in place. We are looking to make the podcast a regular feature and it will be titled Inspector Radio. I am excited about the possible format and it will be taking our page and making it in the audio version.
The big change to the site is the layout. It is our hope that information will become easier to find. Also as a community of inspectors we want you to have a chance to comment on our information (see below this post and follow the links) and ask questions of each other. If you subscribe to the inspector’s report(our enews sent out weekly), utilize the message boards (forums), or just read this blog (and comment) your information is kept private. It is not shared with anyone (we know how busy you are and email can really bog down an inspector).
Enjoy the updates, much more to come in 2008 and have a Happy New Year

Sorry for the delay in the blog, I have looked past it because of working on the new site layout. I probably should have just kept to the inspector thing and not tried to do web-development. I think you will be impressed with the new site layout it is the level I expect it to be.
So we have been moving on the enews titled the Inspector’s report. What a great tool this is becoming in getting timely information to you. When a new user signs up, they will receive several new emails in the first week. I have received more comments about the article on how to get around the code. Did you know you can look at the archieve isssues for the report.
It looks like the first part of 2008 are going to be busy. The NFPA regional code development groups are meeting, ICC Codes Forumis ready for February, and the Mississipi State Fire Academy is hosting a two day Fire Prevention Symposium.
In some future blogs you may hear some rants about the ICC codes forum and the schedule for the event. It appears that if you want to be there for the fire code and the residential hearings about residential sprinklers then you have to go to all of the conference. Way to box out those who are most interested in the topic ICC. So the best bet may be to plan on attending the September Final Action Hearings and make sure residential sprinklers are in the 2009 residential code.
Have a great new year, and thanks for being a part of this site. Feel free to post your comment down below.
